Nancy Clancy is a well known character in the author’s picture book series that is called Fancy Nancy. In this second book of her early chapter book series, geared for 7-10 year olds, in grades 2-5, Nancy is growing up and facing new and different issues.
Scheduled to go on sale, early in January, this book will be just in time for Valentine’s Day. In the first book of this series, Nancy investigates mysteries, and in this, the second, she wants to investigate love. I read an advanced copy of the book, so I am not sure if the pictures drawn are going to be the same in the final edition, however, they are so sweet and charming that any youngster will be drawn to them. The subject matter expresses the innocence of youth and the joy of discovery. The best single word to describe this book is: wholesome!
Nancy’s third grade class is learning about the human heart, and from this discussion, Operation Eternal Love takes flight. Nancy, with her friend, Bree, sets out to help her guitar teacher and her babysitter fall in love on Valentine’s Day. They have both recently broken up with their beaus.
Using age appropriate conversation and vocabulary, while introducing new words in artful and clever ways, the author encourages healthy lifestyles and ideas by giving examples of being neat or having healthy foods for their lunch and snacks including apples and granola or speaking politely and being kind to others. The book offers an entertaining and relaxing opportunity for kids to learn about life while they improve their reading skills.
